Executive member, Cape Town Chamber of Commerce; Executive member, Association of Chambers of Commerce; Chairman, Cape Peninsula Commercial Employers' Organisation. Member, East London City Council, 1944- 46. Served with National Volunteer Brigade during World War II. Member, Keurboom Sports Club. Married Phyllis Horwitz, 1937; one son, one daughter.
