ORLIN, Sidney. Retired Director of Companies. Born Esirany, Russia, 8th July, 1896; son of Harris and Katie Orlin. Migrated to England 1906; educated in London. Came to South Africa 1912. Pioneer of men's clothing trade and was an original member of the Industrial Council for the Clothing Industry, Johannesburg, 1925-1929. Founder of Durban Clothing Manufacturers and Hotel Los Angeles. Senior Director leading gents outfitting shops in Durban – Dents Outfitters (Pty.) Ltd. and Jeromes and Dents, Pietermaritzburg. Committee member Durban Jewish Benevolent Association, 1933-1935; member of Durban Hebrew Congregation; foundation member of Durban Jewish Club, and member of various other Jewish institutions. Member, Union Club and Riverside Bowling Club, Durban. Served in World War I and the 1914 Rebellion with the 2nd Transvaal Scottish and the 2nd S.A. Horse, in South-West and East Africa. Awarded three medals for meritorious service. Married Rachel Finger, 24th June, 1920; two daughters. Recreations: Bowls and reading. Add.: 112, Las Vegas, Snell Parade, Durban.
