Born Nigel 26th June 1916, son of Nathan and Rose Gamsu (father was pioneer of Nigel Jewry, member of the Nigel Town Council for 30 years and Mayor on several occasions). Educated at Jeppe High School, Johannesburg, and Witwatersrand Technical College. Director of Datons (Pty.) Ltd., and other companies. Member of the Nigel Town Council for many years; Mayor 1952-53 and 1956-57. President of Nigel Rotary Club, Nigel Publicity Association and Nigel Chamber of Commerce. Executive member, S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies. Former President, Nathan Gamsu Lodge, Hebrew Order of David. Member of Nigel Municipal Bowling Club. Married Sheila Shaff, 1941; two daughters.
