HECHT, Ellen Mathilde. Born Muelheim/Ruhr, Germany, 23rd July, 1913, daughter of Martin and Meta Steinwasser. Educated at High School, Muelheim/Rhur. Came to South Africa, 1936. Committee member of Business and Professional Women's Club (treasurer, 1956-57). Secretary, Kimberley Women's Zionist League since 1966, and Treasurer, M.D.A. since 1966; member, Griqualand West Hebrew Congregation, Union of Jewish Women, De Beer's Stadium Bowling Club. Served in World War II, with South African Women's Auxiliary Services, Kimberley, 1940-45. Married Friedrich Hecht, 30th May, 1937; one son. Recreation: Bowls.
