Born Vilna, Poland, 22nd October, 1911, son of Isaac and Rose Yellin (father was a cousin of Professor David Yellin and mother was a great granddaughter of the Lubavatcher Rabbi Zalman Shneirson). Educated at Gymnasium and Yeshivoth in Ponevezh and Vilna. Came to South Africa 1930. Chairman of Anchor Diamond Corporation Limited and Director of several other companies. President of the South African Board of Jewish Education from 1964-1967. Chairman 1958-64; previously Hon. Treasurer and an Executive member since 1953. Chairman, Johannesburg Zionist Luncheon Club. Member, Executive S.A. Zionist Federation. Former Chairman (1946-52), South African Friends of the Israeli Symphony Orchestra and Habimah Theatre. Former Vice-Chairman, United Communal Fund for South African Jewry, and former Chairman of Johannesburg U.C.F. Former member of the Board of Management of the "Zionist Record". Champion Klabberjas player and former soccer player. Member of Beaconsfield Club. Married Zipora Entin, 1947; one son, one daughter. Recreation: Tennis.
