SYMANOWITZ, Rabbi Jacob. Born Poland 15th May, 1910, son of Faive and Channah Rivika Symanowitz. Educated at Baranowitz Yeshiva,, Slabotka - Knesset bet Yitzchak in Vilna, and Mirer Yeshiva. Came to South Africa 1938. Chief Inspector of Kashrut for S.A. Federation of Synagogues. Reader at Yeoville Synagogue. Previously was Minister at Winburg, O.F.S.; Gwelo, Southern Rhodesia; and Dewetsdorp, O.F.S Qualified Schochet Mohel and Teacher. Compiler and Editor of Hebrew Wall Calendar distributed to Synagogues throughout South Africa. Married Lena Brill, 1943; two sons. Add.: 51, Webb Street, Yeoville, Johannesburg.
