Taurog, Leonard Barnett


TAUROG, Leonard Barnett. Estate Agent. Born Kimberley 10th June 1913, son of Abraham Lazar and Ethel Johanna Taurog. Educated at Benoni Boys' High School and University of the Witwatersrand. Member of Parliament for Springs (1961 to 1966). Was member of the Transvaal Provincial Council for Springs from 1949 to 1961, and was deputy leader of the United Party in the Council. Chairman, Union Estate Agencies (Pty.) Ltd., and Managing Director of six other companies. Justice of the Peace and Sworn Appraiser, Chairman, Israeli United Appeal Campaign in Springs on two occasions; Vice-Chairman, United Communal Fund campaign in Springs. Hon. member Springs Rotary Club. President, Springs Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on three occasions; President, Springs Red Cross Society on several occasions; was founder member and President of Springs Publicity Association, Chairman of Governing Body of Springs Boys' High School. Served with the South African Forces during World War II in 13th Light Battery. S.A. Artillery. Member, Springs Country Club. Married Leah Melman 1937; three sons. Recreations: Golf and numismatics.
