TROPE, Harry. Retired Chemist and Merchant. Born Posvityn,
Lithuania, 1st June, 1892, son of Aizik and Bessie Trusfus. Educated in Kovno.
Came to South Africa 1911. Conducted a business and farmed in the O.F.S. before
settling in Johannesburg, where he was in business as a wholesaler in liquor
and fancy goods and a manufacturer of perfumery. Hon. Treasurer, S.A. Zionist
Federation, 1952-1967. National Chairman, Israel United Appeal since 1954.
Member of the Actions Committee, World Zionist Movement. Member of the World
Board of Directors of the Keren Hayesod, Jerusalem; President of the Poalei
Zion of South Africa; Director of the J.N.F. Charitable Trust; Chairman, of the
Administration, General Purposes and Finance Committees of the S.A. Zionist Federation.
Hon. Vice-President S.A. Zionist Federation. Member, Transvaal Automobile Club.
Married the late Sylvia Lipman, 1913; married Florrie Jacobs, 1943; three sons,
one daughter. Recreation: Bowls. Add.: 10, Gleneagles, Killarney, Johannesburg.
