WEISS, Reska. Author. Born Uzhorod, Czechoslovakia, daughter
of Mayer and Ernestina Gerstl. Educated in Uzhorod and was President of the
Uzhorod WIZO. During World War II was seized by the Nazis and sent to Auschwitz
and other concentration camps; her dreadful experiences are recorded in her
book, "Journey Through Hell", published in English and several other
languages, and acclaimed by critics as a moving work. Came to South Africa
1952. Member, Johannesburg Women's Zionist League, Jewish Women's Benevolent
Society, Tel Hai Fund, She'ert Hapletah, Provincial Hospitals Kosher Kitchens.
Correspondent of the Buenos Aires (South America) journal "Hatikvah."
Married Martin Weiss (who died in Dachau); two sons. Add.: 704, Burton Court,
Pretoria Street, Hillbrow, Johannesburg.
