WINNETT, Harold. Born Cape Town 2nd April, 1910, son of Harris and Rachel Winnett, Educated at South African College. Director of Strand Book Centre (Pty.) Ltd. Served on East London Hebrew Congregation Committee for 21 years; hon. treasurer for 14 years; served on Chevra Kadisha for 32 years, chairman for 16 years; served as chairman and secretary of Talmud Torah for 11 years; served on Border Committee, S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies since its inception; held office as treasurer; secretary, Zionist Society and Youth Aliyah; committee member, Bikkur Cholim. During World War II served with the Home Guard and assisted in entertaining soldiers. Married Miriam Ivy Levin, 1935; three sons, one daughter. Add.: 59, Gately Street, East London.
