WOLPERT, William. Retired. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, 14th March, 1893, son of Herman and Helene Wolpert. Came to South Africa 1902. Educated at St. Enoch National School, Belfast, and Marist Brothers' College, Johannesburg. Joined Central News Agency Ltd. in 1907 and held various posts on their staff, rising to Deputy General Manager. Retired 1962. Was President of Johannesburg Jewish Guild for several years. During the First World War served with the Rand Light Infantry in the South West African campaign. Member of Wanderers Club, Houghton Golf Club, New Club, Jewish Guild. Married the late Sarah Suzman, 1928; one son. Recreations: Bowls, golf and bridge. Add.: 24, Young Avenue, Houghton, Johannesburg.
