SCHAIOWITZ, Elkon. Attorney. Born Lithuania 25th November, 1901, son of Selik and Rachael Leah Schaiowitz. Came to South Africa 1910. Educated at Jeppe High School and University of the Witwatersrand. Founder of legal firm, Schaiowitz, Levitt & Gordon. Was member of Consultative Committee in connection with establishment of Municipal orchestra. Communal worker for I.U.A., U.C.F. and S.A. Board of Jewish Education, Member of Parent- Teachers' Association of King David High School. During World War II was N.C.O. in Police Reserve. Member and past President, Johannesburg Philatelic Society; co-founder of Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra. Member, Balfour Park Country Club. Married Sarah Tannebaum, 1934; two sons.
