Educated at Pretoria Boys' High School. Was in business in Pretoria before assuming the above position. Took active part in congregational and H.O.D. work in Pretoria; was Senior Warden, Pretoria Great Synagogue, 1949-52; President, Pretoria Lodge of the Hebrew Order of David. In Johannesburg became President of the Chaim Weizmann Lodge; elected Grand President of the Hebrew Order of David, 1960-62. Veteran leader of Jewish youth camps in South Africa: Rosh-Hamachaneh Ichud Habonim B'Nei Zion, since 1936; foundation Chairman of the Zionist Youth Camps Commission; active in youth work at the Yeoville Synagogue, Johannesburg, since 1956. Member of the Pretoria Regiment (Princess Alice's Own), 1923-42; during World War II served with his regiment in Madagascar and the Middle East; rank, Captain. Married Rachel Hellmann, 1926; one son. Recreations were Youth work and camping.
