SCHWARTZ, Leibale. Cantor and Pianist. Born Brody, Poland, 22nd March, 1926, son of Cantor Yaakov Schwartz. Educated in Poland and Buenos Aires, Argentine (Conservatoire Bordoni). Began singing career at age of 19 with Yaakov Benami in "A Flag Is Born." Toured South and Central America, Israel, Europe, U.S.A. and made many records. Came to South Africa 1959, as Cantor to the Beth Hamedrash Hagadol, Johannesburg. Married Clara Kempner, 1960; one son, two daughters. Recreations: Piano, singing, football, reading, languages (speaks seven). Now holds post in America.
