SHALIT, Reuven. Hebrew Teacher. Born Kovno, Lithuania, 6th
March, 1902; son of Tuvia and Chana Shalit. Educated at Kovno Hebrew Teachers'
Seminary, Lubovitz Yeshiva and Bordeaux University (France). Hebrew Teacher at
Rabbi Yehuda Leib Zlotnik Seminary, Johannesburg, and Principal of S.A. Jewish
Orphanage Hebrew Department. Committee member, Histadrut Ivrit; member of Hebrew
Teachers' Committee, 1960-61. Was one of the founders of Kibbutz Tel Yosef in
Israel and of Chug Dramati Massada' under Gnessin and Arnon, and was a member
of the Ohel Theatre cast, 1925-28. Was also one of the original group of five
who pioneered the Potash Factory at the Dead Sea. Has produced several Hebrew
plays in South Africa, including 'Bearvot Hanegev", "Haadama
Hazot" and Peretz's "If Not Higher". Married Dr. Rochel Evin,
23rd June, 1936; one son, Maish. Recreations: Chess, drama. Add.: 59 Alexander
