Silver, Israel Jack


SILVER, Israel Jack, F.C.I., G.G.I. Company Director. Born London, England, 31st May, 1916; son of Simon and Katie Silver. Educated at Enfield Road School and St. John Cass Technical College London. Came to South Africa 1948. Director of clothing factory. By profession a designer, master tailor and production manager. Member, Durban Progressive Jewish Congregation. Was Chairman of Lee-on See- Liberal Synagogue, England, 1947. Chairman of the Clothing Institute, Natal Branch 1967, Served with the British Forces during World War II, as a Sergeant in the 14th Army. Received 1939 Star and Defence, Long Service and Burma Star war medals. Trade award: Silver Medal of City Guilds (Clothing) 1936. Married Gertrude Rita Goldberg, 31st December, 1939; one son, one daughter. Recreation: Teaching clothing technology. Add.: 19 Bel-Aire, Snell Parade. Durban.
