SIMON, Wolfgang. Musician. Born Berlin, Germany, 18th March, 1923, son of Hans and Hilda Simon. Educated at Stern Conservatoire, Berlin; Palestine Conservatoire, Jerusalem. Came to South Africa 1947. Clarinet player, Cape Town Municipal Orchestra; choir-director, Cape Town Jewish Reform Congregation; Conductor, Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra; lecturer for clarinet, South African College of Music, University of Cape Town. Formerly was a member of the Palestine Folk-Opera, Histadruth and Palestine Philharmonic Orchestras. During World War II was on active service in the Middle East with Royal Yugoslav Guards Band, E.N.S.A. concert party and Middle East Symphony Orchestra, Cairo. Member, S.A. Jewish Ex-Servicemen's League. Married Ruth Friederike Lina Stern, 1954; one son. Recreations: Archaeology and allied subjects, photography. Add.: 11, Zion Road, Claremont, Cape Town.
