ROSENTHAL, Eric. Author and Broadcaster. Born Cape Town 10th July, 1905, son of Richard and Hedwig Rosenthal. Educated at St. John's College, Johannesburg, and University of the Witwatersrand. Originally qualified as an Attorney and practised in Johannesburg. Commenced writing career 1925 and is today well known as an industrial and commercial historian. Author of over thirty books on South African history, biography and travel, including the official S.A. Jewish war History, "S.A. Jews in World War II." Editor of "Encyclopaedia of Southern Africa" and contributor to the Encyclopaedia Britannica. Has been broadcasting since 1927; Foundation member of the S.A.B.C. Quiz Team and participant in numerous international contests. Publicity Manager for the Empire Exhibition, Johannesburg, 1936. With Defence Department on special work during World War II. Publicity Manager, S.A. Jewish Appeal, 1944-45. Committee member, S.A. P.E.N. Club (Cape Town); President, Owl Club, Cape Town, 1965.
