Rozental, Chayela

ROZENTAL, Chayela. Actress, Singer and Comedienne. Born Wilno, Poland, 24th April, 1925, daughter of Naum Rozental, owner and publisher of the Wilno Yiddish daily, "Ovent Courier." Educated at Epstein's High School, Wilno, and Dramatic Art Studios in Wilno and Warsaw. During World War II was singer and actress in Wilno Ghetto (1941-43). After escape and liberation, performed in Polish-Jewish State Theatre, Wroclaw, Lodz; toured D.P. camps in Germany, Italy and France on behalf of American Joint Distribution Committee. Came to South Africa 1950 with Mark Markov's Jewish Theatre; since then has toured Europe, Israel, U.S.A. and given many one-woman shows as singer, actress and comedienne.
