Mayor of Johannesburg, 1958-59; City Councillor, 1949-62; member, Transvaal Municipal Association, 1960-61; member, United Municipal Executive, 1961; Vice-Chairman, Council for Reef Municipalities, 1961. Member of Legal Committee which drafted present Magistrates' Courts Act, 1944. Chairman, Southern Transvaal Regional Development Association, 1959- 61; Chairman, Vaal River Catchment Association, since 1959; Executive member, Statutory Committee of National Resources Development Council, 1959- 61; leader of the United Party in the City Council of Johannesburg, 1960-61. Member, Witwatersrand University Council, 1958-59; member, Board of Governors of Civic Theatre. Secretary, Wanderers Athletic Club, 1928; Chairman, Southern Transvaal Cycling Advisory Board, 1932-38; President of the South African Amateur Athletic and Cycling Association, 1950-1953; President of the Southern Transvaal Amateur Athletic Association since 1957; Chairman, Johannesburg Sports and Recreation Festival, 1958-60.
