MARKS, Herman Joseph. Died 1967. Commissioner of Oaths. Director of Companies. Born Russia 23rd September, 1896, son of Samuel Mordechai and Miriam Marks. Educated at Government School Riga, and Johannesburg Business College. Came to South Africa 1912. Director of S.A. Trade Exchange (Pty.) Ltd., Automobile Finance Corporation (Pty) Ltd., Previously was Director of H. J. Marks & Co. S.A. Holdings (Pty) Ltd. and H. J. Marks & Co. Hon. Life Member, Witwatersrand Jewish Aged Home. Served 23 years on committee of Witwatersrand Jewish Aged Home; also Alternate Treasurer of the Building Fund of the Witwatersrand Jewish Aged Home; five years on the Bikkur Cholim Committee; seven years on the committee of Jewish Helping Hand. Served on committee for the purchase of ground and erection of West Park Cemetery. Foundation member, Balfour Park; Treasurer, Balfour Park Village. Married Eva Nathan, 1928; one son, two daughters.
