NEIFELD, Lewis. Retired Manufacturer. Born Russia 15th September, 1882, son of Barry and Shimka Neifeld. Educated in Russia. Came to South Africa 1902, and became one of the pioneers of Germiston Jewry, as well as a pioneer of the S.A. clothing industry; established the East Rand Clothing Manufacturers, which is now carried on by his sons. Member of Germiston Hebrew Congregation since 1907 and served many years on its Executive; became Hon. Treasurer in 1915; played leading part in Talmud Torah and Gemilus Chesed; helped to establish United Hebrew Institutions of Germiston in 1927; and became a member of its Council as well as of the Building Committee which erected the present Germiston Synagogue in 1930. Hon. Life Member United Hebrew Institutions of Germiston. Foundation member, Max Langermann Lodge, Hebrew Order of David; Foundation member, Reading Country Club. Married the late Frumme Zerulnick, 1912; four sons, two daughters. Add.: P.O. Box 87, Germiston.
