POLAK, Herman David. Diamond Merchant, Jeweller and Company Director. Born Amsterdam, Holland 20th November, 1919, son of Margaret Messias and the late David Polak. Came to South Africa 1924. Educated at King Edward VII High School, Johannesburg, and Technion, Amsterdam. Managing Director of Amsterdam Diamond Cutting Works (Natal) (Pty.) Ltd., Durban Jewellers (Pty.) Ltd., Capri Jewellers, Durban. Member of Executive Committee, Durban Jewish Club 1956-59. Treasurer, Durban Jewish Club Building Drive. During World War II served with the 1st South African Division, "Q" S. Corps 1940-44. Was in the East African campaign 1940-41, and in the Western Desert 1941- 43. Founder Member, Circle Country Club, and has served on its Committee since its inception in 1951. Was Chairman 1955-56. Recreations: Golf, swimming.
