Rajak, Harry Xavier


RAJAK, Harry Xavier. J.P., F.C.C.S. Stockbroker and Company Director. Hon. Consul for the Dominican Republic in South Africa since 1948. Born Johannesburg 28th October, 1905, son of Ber and Beila Ethel Rajak (Rand Pioneers). Educated at Jeppe Boys' High School and Universities of Pretoria and Witwatersrand. Senior partner, Bisset, Rajak & Co. (Johannesburg Stock Exchange). Assistant Treasurer, South African Jewish Board of Deputies. Trustee, Cecil Lyons Memorial Foundation; Founder President Simon Kuper Lodge No. 2444 B'nai B'rith (1963-66); S.A. delegate to World Jewish Congress, Stockholm, 1959. Was President, United Hebrew Congregation, Johannesburg, 1957-58; Foundation Chairman, Oxford Synagogue, Johannesburg, 1942-44; Chairman again in 1962-63; Foundation President, Johannesburg Zionist Association, 1936-38; Vice-President, Otto Warburg Lodge, Hebrew Order of David, Pretoria, 1930-31; past President, Transvaal Young Israel Executive, 1926-1928; Past Chairman, S.A. Council Corporation of Secretaries (U.K.) 1951-53; past Vice-Chairman, Witwatersrand General Council of the United Party (under the leadership of the late General Smuts) and Chairman of the party's Johannesburg Municipal Executive, 1950-1953. Member of Jeppe Quondam Club. Lewenslid, Pretoria Universiteit Oudstudentebond. During World War II was Transport Officer in National Volunteer Brigade and Captain, D.R.A.
