KUSHLICK, Taubie. L. R. A. M. Theatrical Producer. Born in Luckoff, O.F.S., 7th May, 1910, daughter of Zalman and Cecilia Braun. Educated at Collegiate School, Port Elizabeth, Weslyn High School, Grahamstown, and Royal Academy, London: studied Theatre in Europe. On return to South Africa she established a Speech Training School in Port Elizabeth, where she also produced and acted in many plays, including the first open-air presentation in South Africa of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Came to Johannesburg 1939, produced and acted in plays for war funds, among them "Our Town," "The Seagull," "Double Doors," "Rebecca," "Separate Tables" and "Ladies in Retirement." Started her own professional company in 1946 with "The Little Foxes." Has produced many plays for the Provincial Arts Councils. Brought several distinguished overseas actors on South African tours, including Alan Dobie in "Look Back in Anger"; Joseph Buloff in "Fifth Season"; Michael McClliamoir in "The Importance of Being Oscar"; the Kiltys in "Dear Liar"; and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?". Director of Taubie Kushlick Theatrical Productions. Among her most notable presentations were also: "Dial M for Murder" (which set up an attendance record in S.A.); "The Women": "Oedipus Rex"; "The Threepenny Opera"; and "The Affair."
