Past President, Cape Town Chamber of Commerce (1961-62); Chairman of the Taxation Committee of the Association of Chambers of Commerce of S.A.; Past President Cape Town Junior Chamber of Commerce (1943- 44). Was a child prisoner-of-war during World War I; in World War II served in Coastal Defence Corps. Member of the Keurboom Sports Club, Owl Club and Netherlands Club.
