Born Johannesburg 20th October, 1906, son of Samuel and Julie Lee Levine.
Educated at Durban High School and University of Natal. Principal of
Springfield Training College (for Indian Teachers). Hon. Life member and Past
President Society; past of the Natal Teachers' Society; past Chairman of the
Board of Hibberdene Holiday Home for Underprivileged Children. Hon. General
Secretary, Natal Teachers' Society; past Editor of "Mentor," journal
of the society; former member, Federal Council of S.A. Teachers' Associations.
Chairman, Zionist Council for Natal; member, Board of Governors, Carmel
College; Committee member, Durban United Hebrew Congregation, Hebrew Schools
and Jewish Education Council; past President, Council of Natal Jewry (1956);
past Chairman, Israeli United Appeal (1962). Former Editor of
"Hashalom" (journal of Durban Jewish Club). Life member, Hebrew Order
of David, F. C. Hollander Lodge. Served during World War II with South African
Forces in Egypt and Italy, first in Artillery, then as Information Officer.
Became Major in A.C.F. Married Claire Hoddes, 1940; one son, one daughter.
