HERSKOVITS, Peter. Died 1964. Was a Licensed Diamond Cutter, Director of Companies and leading Zionist worker. Born Ilba, Hungary, 21st January, 1907, son of Benjamin and Reizel Herskovits. Educated in Hungary, Came to S. Africa 1929. Was Director of Peter Herskovits (Pty) Ltd., Diamond Centre (Pty.) Ltd. and other companies. Was a member of the National Diamond Cutting Apprenticeship Committee and an Executive member of the Master Diamond Cutters' Association of South Africa. Active in Zionist work since his youth, he was an Executive member of the Zionist Revisionist Organisation of S.A. and President of the Tel Hai Fund. Executive member, S.A. Zionist Federation. Attended Zionist Congress in Basle, Switzerland, 1946. Was delegate to World Revisionist Congress, Basle, 1946, and Jerusalem, 1960, when he was delegate to the World Zionist Congress as well. Delegate to World Diamond Congress in Israel, 1956. Vice-President, World Diamond Congress, Antwerp, 1958. Was a member of the S.A. Diamond Club and Beaconsfield Sporting Club.
