JACKSON, Abraham Mourice. J.P. (Died 1967) Born Cork, Ireland, 31st March, 1884, son of Zelick and Bertha Jackson. Educated in Dublin. Came to South Africa 1900. Veteran Jewish communal leader and civic personality. Life member (former Chairman) of the Cape Council of the S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies. Life Trustee (former President) of the Green and Sea Point Hebrew Congregation. Life member of the Cape Peninsula Council of the United Party and Chairman of its Sea Point Division. Member of the Provincial Council for Sea Point, 1949-59. Member of the Cape Peninsula Cemeteries Board of Trustees. Member of the Cape Province Tuberculosis Council (SANTA). Former Director of the Cape Town Community Chest. Former Chairman, Sea Point Public Library, Sea Point Boys' Junior and Senior School Committee, Furniture Traders' Association (Cape Town). Former member of the Somerset and Athlone Hospital Board. Former President, Cape Town Hebrew Congregation (1940-41), Cape Jewish Orphanage (1928). Former Chairman, United Council of Orthodox Hebrew Congregations (Cape Town). Was Hon. Treasurer of the United S.A. Relief, Reconstruction and Orphans' Fund (Cape) in 1917, and served on many other organisations. President of the Johannesburg Jewish Guild, 1915. During World War II was Chairman of the Furniture Zone Committee, Directorate-General of War Supplies. Married Lily Rosenberg, 1911; two sons, one daughter.
