JAFFE, Aleck. Manufacturer. Born Johannesburg, 20th June 1918, son of Israel and Tilly Jaffe. Educated at Athlone High School. Director Clo-Craft (Pty) Ltd.. Distributors Corporation. Mayor of Johannesburg 1965/66; Deputy Mayor 1964/65. Elected to Johannesburg City Council continuously from 1954 to date; served on City Council's Health Committee, Parks and Estates. Committee, Utilities Committee, Works and Traffic Committee, Youth Affairs Committee. Non-European Affairs Committee, Chairman, Council's Special Committee on Youth Affairs. Founder member and Chairman, Youth Advice Bureau. National Chairman, S.A. Youth Hostels Association. Vice-chairman, Yeoville Recreation Centre, Member of first Board of Convenors and of Advisory Committee, Civic Theatre (1964 onwards). Executive member, Johannesburg Publicity Association since 1960, Vice-Chairman 1964/66; President 1965/66. Member of Witwatersrand University Bursaries Committee. Executive Member, S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies (1966/67). Member of Governing Body, Balfour Park (Past Chairman and Hon. President of its Soccer Club). Hon. Life Member, former Vice-President, Yeoville Amateur Swimming Club. Held various positions on Transvaal Amateur Swimming Association and S. Transvaal Football Association. Hon. General Secretary of Football Association of S.A. 1961/63, and S.A. Delegate to F.I.F.A. International Congress, London, 1961. Held various positions on S.A. Maccabi Association, including Chairman, Swimming Committee, 1952/53, Chairman, Soccer Executive, 1950 and 1956/57. Chairman, National Selection Committee Soccer for Maccabi World Games, 1957, 1961, 1965, and was elected Life Member, S.A. Maccabi Association, in recognition of his services. Has served on Athlone Boys High School Governing Body and other School Committees. Married Leba Lipschitz, 1954; one son, two daughters. Recreations: Swimming and Youth work. Add.: 73.
