Educated at Normal College School (holds Union First-class Teacher's Certificate) and Universities of Cape Town and Witwatersrand. Director of Commercial Air Services (Pty.) Ltd., and other companies. Executive member, S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies, and Chairman of its Law and Parliamentary Committee, 1929-37. Represented S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies on Johannesburg Hospital Appeal Committee; Chairman, Hebrew High School, Johannesburg, 1929; Fast President of the Jewish Students' Association at South African College, and one of its founders in 1913. Chairman, Editorial Board of "S.A. Jewish Year Book," 1929; Chairman, S.A. Jewish Sociological and Historical Society for several years; Chairman of the Editorial Board for the publication of "The Jews of South Africa"; one of the founders of the United Talmud Torah Schools of Johannes- burg; contributor to various periodicals on Jewish themes. During World War II served as Lieutenant in S.A.A.F. (1942-45). Married Irene Antoinette Newmark 30th June, 1921; two daughters. Add.: 304, Sevenoaks, Killarney, P.O. Box 6850, Johannesburg.
