GELL, Marcus. Director of Companies. Born Kingwilliamstown, Cape, 20th March, 1914, son of Isaac and Katherine Gell. Educated at Dale College, Kingwilliamstown, and S.A.C.S., Cape Town. Formerly Sales Manager of Gell's Roller Mills, Kingwilliamstown; now Director of Marcus Gell & Co. (Pty.) Ltd. and G. Isenberg (Pty.) Ltd., East London. Committee Member, Border Stationers Association; President of Temple Hillel, East London, for past three years; Secretary, East London Zionist Association, 1946-56. Committee Member of Zionist Association and the Border Committee of the S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies for approximately 20 to 25 years; Member, Jewish Ex-Service League, Alexander Country Club and Comrades Club. Served with the South African Forces in World War II, 1940-41; Discharged for reasons of health. Married Hannah Mankowitz, 3rd March, 1940; one son, one daughter. Recreation: Bowls.
