GONSKI, David Szlama, M.B.E. Director of Companies. Born Lodz, Poland, 3rd June, 1916, son of Max and Cecilia Gonski. Came to South Africa 1929. Educated at Commercial High School, Johannesburg. Managing Director, Max Gonski & Sons; Gonski Textile Agencies; and several other companies. Chairman, Johannesburg Branch Jewish Ex-Service League, 1947; Deputy on Jewish Board of Deputies, 1946-48; member of School Committee (Governing Body) Houghton School, 1961-62; member, member, Johannesburg United Hebrew Congregation. Served with the South African Forces in World War II, 1939-1945, in Egypt, Libya, Cyrenaica, Israel, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Italy, France. Seconded to British Army (26 BMM).
