Goss, Isaac


GOSS, Rabbi Isaac. M.A. Director of S.A. Board of Jewish Education. Born Johannesburg 24th March, 1912, son of Tuviah and Ida Goss. Educated at Commercial High School, Johannesburg, University of the Witwatersrand, and Jews' College, London. Was Lecturer in Hebrew at the University of the Witwatersrand under the late Chief Rabbi, Professor Dr. J. L. Landau, 1934: Co-Minister with Rev. W. H. Wyscheik to Germiston United Hebrew Institutions and Principal of Germiston Hebrew School, 1936-37. Principal, Port Elizabeth Hebrew School, 1937-1944. Appointed Assistant Director, South African Board of Jewish Education under late Rabbi J. L. Zlotnik, 1944. Chairman, People's College Committee, since 1953; Chairman, Education Committee of the Jewish Education under late Rabbi J. L. Zlotnik, Chairman, People's College Committee since 1953; Chairman Education Committee of the Jewish National Fund. Author of "Some Reflections on Jewish Education"; "the Adventure of Jewish Education"; "From the Fountain of My Thoughts" (Hebrew); Co-Author with Rabbi Professor J. Newman of "Jewish History" and "Jewish Heritage." Lesson Stories, issued by S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies. Married Bertha Tannenbaum, 1935; one son, one daughter.
