Director of Jack Ellis (Pty.) Ltd., House Furnishers (Springs), and other companies. Practised as Dentist in Bethal, 1928/ 33; was Bethal Town Councillor and member of Hospital Board; also established Boxing Club and Amateur Theatrical Society. Settled in Springs, 1934; member of Springs Town Council since 1946; Mayor, 1951-52 and 1961-62; was responsible for erection of Springs Municipal Theatre and Selection Park Swimming Bath. Former Chairman, Springs Repertory Players. Charter member, Springs Rotary Club (President, 1942); Past Chairman, Springs Publicity Association and Springs Ratepayers' Association. Executive member, Springs Chamber of Commerce. Chairman, Springs United Hebrew Institutions, 1962-63; member, Maccabi National Committee, 1935-63. During World War II served as Company Commander in Police Reserve and Sergeant-Inspector, Police Brigade. Foundation and Executive member, Springs Country Club; Committee member, Springs Bowling Club. Married Mary Cramer, 1948; one son, two daughters; also two daughters from previous marriage.
