FOGEL, Rabbi Joseph Jacob. Minister of Religion. Born Czechoslovakia 13th December, 1920, son of Mendel and Pepi Fogel. Educated at Bratislava Yeshiva, Czechoslovakia. Came to South Africa 1956. Minister of the Hebrew Congregation Etz Chayim, Johannesburg. Previously Minister at Tel Hashomer Synagogue, Israel (1948- 56), and Carletonville Hebrew Congregation, Transvaal (1956-1960). Chairman of the S.A. Rabbinical Association. Served with the Haganah during the Israel War of Independence. Married Judith Zelmanovitz, 1946; two sons, one daughter.
