Franklin, Lew


FRANKLIN, Lew.  A.C.I.S. Insurance Consultant. Born London, son of Israel and Fanny Franklin. Great-grandson of Michael Mendoza, who received the Freedom of the City of London in 1856, and a descendant of Mendoza, the famous British boxer. Educated in London at the Stepney Jewish Day School; Michael Henry Scholarship winner. Came to Rhodesia 1939 and served in World War II with the First Rhodesia Motorized Field Ambulance; afterwards seconded to the British Forces in East Africa for special duties. Came to South Africa 1946. Was Organising Secretary of Parkview Greenside and Districts Hebrew Congregation from 1948 until entering insurance in 1955; Warden 1958 and 1962. As a life Insurance Consultant, wrote the most business for his company in South Africa in 1961. Executive Member, Mizrachi Organisation. Member of the Council of Yeshiva College since its inception.
