GALGUT, Oscar. B.A., LL.B., O.B.E. Judge of the Supreme Court of South Africa. Born Pretoria 29th July, 1906, son of Phillip and Freda Galgut. Educated at Pretoria Boys' High School and Transvaal University College. Was for many years President of the Military Pensions Appeal Tribunal; and Executive member of the General Council of the Bar of South Africa; former Chairman, Pretoria Bar Council. During World War II served as Lt.-Colonel in the S.A. Air Force and one-time Officer Commanding 24 Squadron; awarded O.B.E. and twice mentioned in dispatches. Played an active part in Zionist work for several years. Represented Transvaal at Hockey and Athletics; was Vice-Captain of the S.A. Hockey and Union Team which visited Kenya and Uganda in 1938; played first team hockey, tennis, cricket, athletics at university, Member, Pretoria Club, Wanderers Club, Hon. Life member, Pretoria Golf Club; member, Pretoria Country Club, Zwartkops Country Club, Wingate Park Country Club; Life member, Harlequin Club and Pretoria High School Old Boys' Club; Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, Scotland.
