CAPLAN, Samuel. Insurance Executive and Life Underwriter. Born Cape Town 6th October, 1919, son of Barnett and Janet Caplan. Educated at Jeppe High School and University of the Witwatersrand. Managing Director of the S. Hirschmann Insurance Organisation. Formerly Secretary of the S.A. Zionist Federation; and Manager for Africa of El Al Israel Airlines. Former Executive member of the S.A. Zionist Federation. During World War II served with S.A. Signal Corps "Up North"; taken prisoner at Tobruk, June, 1942; escaped October, 1943.
