Cohen, Max - Medical practitioner


COHEN, Max, B.A. (Cape Town), M.B., Ch B. (Liverpool). Medical Practitioner. Born Sutherland, C.P., 5th February, 1902, son of Benjamin and Millie Cohen. Educated at the S.A. College High School, University of Cape Town, and University of Liverpool. Awarded Queen Victoria Scholarship at SACS. Ex-Major, S.A.M.C. Previously Medical Officer, Workmen's Compensation; Senior Medical Officer Pensions Dept. Member, Cape Town Jewish Reform Congregation; Brotherhood of the Reform Congregation; served on Congregation Council and was former convenor of Social Welfare Committee; still a member of Social Welfare Committee. Member of the Art Society. Served during World War II as Senior Medical Officer, Defence Headquarters, Pretoria (1940-45). Awarded Queen's Coronation Medal and Goold Adams Medal. Married Gwendoline Weedon, 7th November, 1942; has a son and a daughter by a previous marriage, and a son by present marriage. Recreation: Art.
