EDELSTEIN, Alfred. Lt. Col. in the South African Police. Born Danielskuil, Cape Province, 15th April, 1912, son of Charles and Elsa Edelstein. Educated at Boys' High School, Kimberley, and Glen Agricultural College. Joined South African Police in 1936 as a Uniformed Constable. Became a Detective in 1940, promoted Second-Class Detective Sergeant 1945, First-Class Detective Sergeant 1947; Detective Warrant Officer 1950, Lieutenant 1954, Captain 1958, Major 1964. Now Divisional Criminal Investigation Officer for the West Rand Division. During World War II served with the South African Forces in East Africa and Middle East.
