EGERT, Roman Bernard. B.A. Insurance Consultant. Born Lwow, Poland, son of Zische Jona and Genia Egert. Came to South Africa 1932. Educated at Universities of Cape Town and South Africa. Formerly was teacher of English at Paarl, Johannesburg and Tel Aviv; also former Hebrew teacher. Chairman of S.A. Zionist Youth Council, 1953-55; Executive member of S.A. Zionist Federation. Former Chairman, Israeli Maritime League; former Chairman, Hebrew Teachers' Union of S.A. Was Editor of various University and Zionist journals and of first Jewish Journal in Afrikaans. Translated Passover Haggadah into Afrikaans (published 1943). Married Rita Fay Kruss, 1952; one son, three daughters. Add.: 209, St. George's Road, Observatory Extension, P.O. Box 1097, Johannesburg.
