BLOCH, Leah Bertha. Widow of the late Mr. Justice H. M.
("Bobby") Bloch. Born Ponevez, Lithuania, daughter of Joseph and
Helene Baila Geffen, (Her father was a distinguished Hebrew scholar.) Came to
South Africa with her family as a child. Educated at Normal College, Cape Town.
Taught English and Bookkeeping at a Commercial College in Cape Town. Played a
leading part in Zionist work from her student years; was an Executive member of
the Bnoth Zion for many years, and at various times was Vice-Chairman and
acting Chairman. Initiated the "Bnoth Zion Diary" and produced the
first issues; the diary is now a regular annual publication. Has taken a keen
interest in South African cultural work and welfare activities. Married the
late Hyman Morris ("Bobby") Bloch in 1935; has two sons. Recreations:
Reading, studying, foreign languages, gardening and flower arrangements. Add.:
