BLOCK, Maurice. Dr.Phil. Attorney. Born Rossienny 19th January, 1890, son of Salomon and Malka Block. Came to South Africa 1920. Educated at school in Liverpool; at Yeshivoth, Jerusalem; at Hebrew Teachers' Seminary, Jerusalem; and at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. Head of the Department of Hebrew, University of the Orange Free State (lectured for 25 years, now retired). Life Committee member, United Hebrew Institutions of Bloemfontein; member of Talmud Torah Committee; member of the Chevra Kadisha Committee; Chairman, Orange Free State and Northern Cape Zionist Council. Vice-Chairman, S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies (O.F.S. Committee); member of the Hebrew Order of David; B'nai B'rith; Masonic Lodge "Vine." Married the late Rose Friedmann, 1919; one son.
