ABELSOHN, Jack. M.B., Ch.B., D.A. (Eng.), F. F. A. R. C. S. (Eng.) Anaesthetist. Born Cape Town 25th July, 1910, son of Chaim (Charles) and Sorah Abelsohn. Educated at S.A.C.S. and University of Cape Town. Senior Hon. Anaesthetist, Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town; Hon, Anaesthetist, Victoria Hospital, Wynberg and Maitland Cottage Hospital. President S.A. Society of Anaesthetists, 1953, was first Resident Anaesthetist appointed to the Groote Schuur Hospital (Cape Town) and administered the first anaesthetic at this hospital when it was opened to the public in February 1938. Committee member, Cape Town Hebrew Congregation, since 1948; Committee member, Friends of the Hebrew University, Cape Town, since 1960. Foundation member King David Country Club. During World War II was Major in S.A.M.C.; formerly Consultant Anaesthetist Military Hospital, Wynberg: Senior Anaesthetist Cape Command; Consultant Anaesthetist, Westlake and Brooklyn Chest Hospitals. Married Ruby Leftin 26 March, 1942; two sons, one daughter. Recreations: Swimming, reading, music, pewter collecting. Add.: "The Two Jays," Tennant Road, Kenilworth, Cape.
