ADELSON, Chaya (Edith). Housewife. Born Lithuania 15th December, 1887, daughter of Solomon and Gita Brana Treisman. Came to South Africa 1902. Educated at Market Street and Mayfair Schools, Johannesburg. At age of 16 she organized the Bnoth Zion in Johannesburg and served as its first Secretary. Member of Johannesburg Women's Zionist League almost since its inception. Founder of Belgravia and city branches of the League and a past Chairman of the Hospital branch. Former Chairman, present Committee member, Magen David Adom, former Chairman, Fordsburg Benevolent Society. Married the late Israel Adelson, 1908; three sons, three daughters.
