Tyfield, Lazarus

TYFIELD, Lazarus, Advocate, Supreme Court of South Africa, Barrister-at-Law, Inner Temple, London, South-Eastern Circuit and Mayor's Court, London. Born in Capetown in 1882. Educated at South African College, Capetown. Married in 1907 to Elizabeth Koski; has four children. Sometime Member of British Board of Deputies, representing Plymouth, and Member of the Council of the United Synagogues, London; during the War assisted in organising Record Office, London, South African Expeditionary Force under Lieut.-Colonel Helbert, for which received the thanks of the Minister of Defence, General Smuts; thereafter was appointed Director of Claims at Ministry of Munitions, to settle losses arising out of explosions in munition manufacturing areas; was selected to take charge in November, 1918, on behalf of the Treasury of all applications for assistance under the special scheme at the Ministry of Labour for refitting officers and men of similar educational qualifications to complete their studies and resume their place in civil life.
