GOTSMAN, Abraham Joseph, School Teacher. Born in Newcastle-on-Tyne in 1893. Came to South Africa in 1897. Educated at Hopemill Public School, Normal College School, Cape Town Training College and Witwatersrand University. Married in 1917 to Sophie Lurie (deceased), youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maier Lurie, of Krugersdorp, and in 1928 married Ethel Paswell, niece of Mr. and Mrs. M. Lurie; has three children. P.M., "Libertas," 74, G.E.N.; Prov. G. Almoner, G.E.N.; Life Member of Transvaal Masonic Education Institution; Chairman of West Rand "Lemaan Zion" Association; ex-Chairman, W.R. Teachers' Association; has always taken a keen interest in Zionist affairs, and was a former District Councillor for the West Rand, South African Zionist Federation.
