COHEN, Louis, Merchant. Born in Shavli, Lithuania, in 1873, and educated there. Came to South Africa in 1895. Married in 1902 to Pauline Katzen; has three children. Member, Cape Town Philanthropic Society during Boer War; on Committee, Jewish Aged Home since 1912; held position of Chairman for 4 years, and was elected Life Member of the Committee; now Treasurer of same: Chairman for the Doornfontein Hebrew Congregation for 3 years; for many years Committee Member of the South African Jewish Orphanage; energetic communal worker and donor: staunch Zionist supporter.
