COHN, Alfred Louis, Solicitor, of Lincoln's Inn, London, Barrister-at-Law. Born in Briesen, Germany, in 1874. Came to South Africa in 1881. Educated at Kimberley, Berlin, London, Amsterdam. Married in 1905 to Fannie Kramer; has three children. Served on various Government Commissions; assisted in drafting Mozambique Convention, 1909, Company Law and other Government Measures; during War, Special Adviser on General Smuts' Staff; Founder, and some-time Chairman, of the Federation of Ratepayers of Johannesburg; contested Hospital Hill Division in the 1918 Provincial Council Elections; Member S.A.P. Executive for the Witwatersrand; Member, German School Board and legal representative of the ex-Kaiser; sometime Hon. Secretary, Johannesburg Hebrew Congregation; Chairman of the South African Jewish Territorial and South African Jewish Colonisation Society; now Vice-President, Jewish Guild War Memorial Hall Association; Member of Editorial Board of South African Jewish Year Book.
